HUMP! Film Spotlight: FRANKENPEEN
Showing as part of the Fall 2026 HUMP! season.
Meet Jamie, the creator of HUMP! Fall 2026 film: FRANKENPEEN. A two-time HUMP! filmmaker, whose other film, Orcagasm, showed last year during our 20th anniversary season.
Jamie is an artist and sculptor based in New Orleans (you may have seen her incredible deep-sea disco ball creations on social media). For HUMP!, she leaves behind disco balls for stop-motion, creating delightfully unique films that have us yearning for a monster to call our own.
What made you want to submit this film to HUMP!?
Jamie: I first started doing stop motion animation during lockdown, and shortly after I went to my first HUMP! film screening. I saw two animations that really blew me away, and that gave me the idea to submit my own.
My first year I submitted Orcagasm, and I got in, and I was really surprised (and big thanks to HUMP! for having me two years in a row).
What would you say to someone creating a film for HUMP! for the first time?
Jamie: I think that it helps to have a unique product, and personally I go to HUMP! film screenings to see something that I've never seen before, something that will really excite my imagination.
What community does your film represent or speak to?
Jamie: If anything, I think my animations are monster kink. I've always been a big horror fanatic, and this medium is giving me a place to create creature features that blend sci-fi and horror with my own personal fantasies.
What (if anything) did you discover about your own desire that surprised you during the process of creating your film?
Jamie: This year, I was surprised to find that I enjoyed creating myself in the role of Doctor Frankenstein, and using some live-action moments to do that. I'm usually a behind-the-scenes person, and this gave me a little place to express that part of myself.
What do you hope audiences feel first watching your film: curiosity, turned on, discomfort, laughter, or acceptance? Something else entirely?
Jamie: Hopefully people experience the whole range of emotions when watching FRANKENPEEN.
I want it to be erotic, funny, heartbreaking, all at once. Being able to show gore and tenderness, while still making people laugh, is my ultimate goal.
Let’s talk consent in porn!
Jamie: Since it's animated, consent takes a different role in my film, and I think that I show that in the live-action moments, especially where they touch hands and they have this emotional connection that is very apparent
But also by the end of my film you can see that Frankenpeen has his own agency, and is making his own choices, unlike the real Frankenstein story. My Frankenstein is thoroughly enjoying his reanimation too.
My animations are made with paper, so I do a lot of drawing and storyboarding before I start filming, so everything's very intentional, and because I'm a solo filmmaker, it's solely my creative vision and my passion put into it.
It's horror, romance, comedy, and fantasy all mashed together. The short packs so much into a few minutes, but I feel like there's a lot more I wanna explore with these characters, so look out for FRANKENPEEN 2!
